Driving Through Fiesta, Rodeo, and Special-Event Traffic

San Antonio does not only get worse at rush hour. Fiesta San Antonio, the Stock Show & Rodeo, large concerts, and downtown festivals rewrite the map for a weekend. Barricades appear on streets a teen drove last Tuesday.

Check closures the morning of the trip. Build an extra 30–45 minutes. If the event is downtown, park once and walk. Do not circle the block hunting a closer space while a parade route is live.

Expect pedestrians who treat the street like a sidewalk, rideshare drivers stopping in travel lanes, and officers waving traffic through a light you thought you owned. Eye contact and a complete stop beat a wave and a roll.

Night events add glare and tired drivers. If you are the new driver, you are not the designated late-night pickup until you have night driving hours and a plan.

Rhodes Driving Schools can schedule lessons that include event-adjacent roads when the calendar allows. Ask. A calm pass through a busy corridor is better practice than another empty Sunday lot.
